A Christ-Centered Wedding with Heart, Humor, and a Whole Lot of Joy

Some weddings just feel different—in the best way. Dillon and Kandis’ summer wedding wasn’t just beautiful; it was alive. Full of warmth, laughter, Scripture, and love, their day embodied everything we love about being Christian wedding photographers in Central Mississippi.

Yes, it was blazing hot—over 110° with Louisiana humidity—but that didn’t stop these two from creating the wedding of their dreams. Their story, rooted in faith and friendship, was a joy to witness and an even greater joy to photograph.

College Sweethearts with a Deep Faith Connection

Dillon and Kandis met at Mississippi College in Clinton, MS, where their shared love for Jesus and involvement in their church, Morrison Heights Baptist, brought them together. From the first consult, we knew they were our kind of couple—laid-back, joyfully in love, and focused on what truly matters.

Originally planning a weeping-willow-lit outdoor venue, their dream ceremony had to pivot due to extreme heat. Instead, they transformed the lawn outside Kandis’ childhood church in Slidell, LA into a stunning tented celebration filled with florals, string lights, and their closest loved ones.

A First Look Full of Surprise and Sacred Intimacy

The first look was… unforgettable.

We set up in a wooded area adorned with vintage decor, and Dillon waited patiently. But before Kandis arrived, his best man stepped out—fully dressed in a veil and holding a bouquet! Dillon doubled over in laughter, setting the tone for the day.

Then came the real moment. Kandis approached, glowing and smiling ear to ear. What followed was one of the most beautiful private first looks we’ve ever captured. The couple shared personal vows, read Scripture, and participated in a symbolic foot-washing ceremony—an act of humility and devotion that reflected their love for each other and Christ.

A Laid-Back Wedding Party That Kept It Fun

Before the ceremony, we took bridal party photos to give the couple more time to relax post-vows. The group brought so much energy and humor to their portraits—some even suggested their own poses, which made everything feel effortless and fun.

It’s moments like these that remind us why we document weddings the way we do. At Magnolia Garden Photography, we aim to preserve the real, not just the pretty. Our approach is gentle, minimally posed, and focused on connection—not perfection.

A Ceremony Rooted in Scripture and Celebration

Under the diffused soft glow of the sun beaming through the ceremony tent, Dillon and Kandis said “I do” surrounded by family, friends, and the presence of God. Pastor Drew Dabbs of Morrison Heights officiated, reading verses and guiding them through heartfelt vows.

Touches of personality made this ceremony feel one-of-a-kind:

  • A rope-tying tradition symbolizing their bond
  • Coffee and tea mug favors for guests
  • A handcrafted arbor and florals lining the tent
  • Worshipful music and Scripture readings throughout

Southern Soul Food and a Joy-Filled Reception

Inside the church, guests were treated to an unforgettable reception. The food (in true South Louisiana style) was phenomenal. Emotional first dances had everyone misty-eyed, and by the time dancing kicked off, it was clear—these people knew how to party.

The evening ended with a joyful Second Line—a New Orleans tradition where the couple leads a parade of dancing guests around the venue—and a sparkler send-off that lit up the night.
